Wodonga Wire uses publicly available information that residents can inspect and check for themselves. No paywalled or proprietary information is used.

The site brings together material published by councils, governments and other public bodies so residents do not have to find and piece it together themselves. Every figure, record and page on the site names the source it came from; the publishers and collections behind the whole site are below.

Limits of the public record

• Source pages and documents change or disappear. A link that worked when a record was captured may now go to a moved, revised or removed page. Wodonga Wire keeps a copy of what it read and says when it read it, so a record can be checked against the version it was built from.
• Historical records are incomplete. Older meetings, reports and datasets were published in formats that do not always carry the detail later ones do, and some were never published online. A gap in the record here is a gap in what was published or what has been captured so far, not evidence of anything else.
• Agencies sometimes publish conflicting figures. The same measure can differ between a council document, a state dataset and a national release because each counts a different thing, over a different period or boundary, or has since been revised. Each figure on this site names the source and basis it came from.
• Uncertainty is preserved, not resolved. Where the public record does not settle a question, or two sources disagree, the page says so. Wodonga Wire does not choose a preferred answer on the record's behalf or fill a gap with an estimate of its own.
